Online casinos are quick to point out whenever anyone criticizes their unregulated status that for quite some time gambling in casinos was considered illegal and now, while far from mainstream, legal in authorized areas. It is hoped that one day the same forces which helped make casinos gambling legitimate in the eyes of the public in the U.S. and elsewhere will help to make online casinos gambling everywhere be seen as legal. While online gambling is popular all over the planet, those countries which allow their citizens to gamble money at online casinos do not often allow the servers for the online casinos to be based in those same countries.
Are online casinos destined for their own Las Vegas or Atlantic City, places where their servers can be legally and specifically based for the use of users from around the world? Only time will tell, but the likely case is that online casinos will fight tooth and nail to get legalized around the world in the countries that currently look down on their operations because they know that is where the money is and if they can convince world governments to sign on, the governments can reap the benefits of regulated online gambling as well as the casinos themselves and of course the users around the world who love to use them.
For now, online casinos gamblers in the United States will have to make do with online casinos being based in Antigua, Gibraltar, or elsewhere, and with the fact that their own government stands de facto against them wagering their own money at online casinos. Some sympathy can be shown for the concerns of the U.S. government with regards to the unregulated nature of online casinos, but American officials would be smarter to co-opt online casinos rather than deal with the consequences of the online casinos setting the rules before the U.S. can stop them.
