It seems you can’t offer memberships to online casinos on eBay these days without hearing threats that your online gambling company is about to be sued. Bet By Internet had begun a heavily publicized $100,000 auction for a pre-paid membership online gambling. The lot itself had a reserve price of $49,000, which is 50% less (obviously) than the purported face value of the online casinos membership. However, eBay took action against the online casinos advertisement, stating that such auctions are not allowed for “encouraging illegal actions”. Still, Bet By Internet is seemingly undeterred, and is reportedly looking for a way around the legal obstacle. Online gambling is considered illegal by U.S. authorities.
The Vice President of Bet By Internet, Randal Zuniga, said that "Gambling is legal only in Vegas," Zuniga opined. "So my guess is that eBay should not have a problem with this type of auction." For information’s sake, it must be noted that the pre-paid gambling membership is actually a pre-paid gambling trip to Las Vegas. Observers were extremely skeptical though, noting that far from gambling’s only being allowed in Las Vegas, you can also legally gamble in Atlantic City and on Indian reservations which have their own casinos.
“This is just silly,” one online casinos industry analyst said. “The idea that people are going to pay to join an online casino – and pay that insane an amount of money – just to get a trip to Las Vegas…it’s insane. For a $100 ticket and a pre-set amount of money bought with you, you can have a cheap weekend in Sin City for a mere fraction of the cost that Bet By Internet offers such ‘deals’. Online casinos offering great deals is one thing. But they should be realistic. Not ostentatious. Leave the crazy auctions to Golden Palace casino and focus on your online casinos customers.” |
