As if the legal mess in the United States is not enough, news come from online casinos operators in Canada claiming that internet gambling advertisement became forbidden in the country. The Canadian government is aiming at closing all loopholes regarding online casinos legislation, and to make it perfectly clear that online casinos gambling is illegal, and so does promoting and advertising such online services. The new act will ban direct, as well as indirect, online casinos advertising and make online gambling operators' life even harder in the Great White North.
This is a serious blow to the online casinos community following the already shaky situation in the United States with the President signing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act. Not only that performing transactions to online casinos are illegal, but promoting online gambling sites and their business becomes impossible in Canada as well. Politicians in Canada regard online casinos as addictive and overly easy to access, and their solution for the 'problem' is to ban such activities.
The online casinos industry is trying to influence the government in Canada to follow different patterns and to adopt the European stand on online casinos, with the United Kingdom regulating the online casinos industry, and other European governments running internet gaming sites themselves. Instead of working with the online gambling industry, and making the best of the situation, legislators in Canada are hiding behind the easiest bureaucratic solution – a full scale ban. Hopefully, in the future, the benefits of the European approach will appeal to the Canadian government and change will be made. |
